CONSERVATION TRAINING APPLICATION

Aquaholics may subsidise selected training where it helps build the skills, safety and volunteer capacity needed for our marine conservation projects.

​

This training support is designed to help members and volunteers participate more effectively in activities such as safe conservation diving and snorkelling, biodiversity surveys, marine pest identification, marine debris removal, habitat restoration support, citizen science data collection and project leadership.

Aquaholics is not a commercial dive training centre. Where formal training is required, courses are delivered by appropriately qualified training providers, instructors or partner organisations. Aquaholics’ role is to help identify conservation training needs, support suitable applicants and strengthen the volunteer base available for practical marine conservation work.

 

What training may support

Depending on the project and available funding, subsidised training may help volunteers develop skills in areas such as:

• safe participation in conservation dives and snorkels

• biodiversity monitoring and species observation

• underwater photography for citizen science

• marine pest and invasive species identification

• responsible marine debris removal

• survey methods and site recording

• project leadership and volunteer coordination

• first aid, safety and emergency readiness where relevant to project participation

 

What may be subsidised

Successful applicants may have some or all of the following training costs covered:

• theory or classroom components

• in-water instruction costs

• project-specific conservation training

• selected training materials where required

 

The level of subsidy may vary depending on the training required, available funding, project priorities and the number of applicants.

 

What is not subsidised

 

Unless specifically stated, Aquaholics does not subsidise:

• personal snorkelling or scuba equipment

• tanks, weights or other required dive equipment

• transport to and from training sites

• parking fees

• pool entry fees

• personal accident insurance

• food or drinks

• agency certification fees, where applicable

• general recreational dive training not connected to Aquaholics conservation activities

 

Eligibility and priority

Training subsidies are limited and cannot be provided to all applicants. Priority may be given to applicants who:

• are current Aquaholics members or active supporters

• have previously participated in Aquaholics conservation activities

• have a demonstrated interest in marine conservation

• are willing to contribute volunteer time to Aquaholics projects

• have appropriate swimming, snorkelling or diving ability for the activity

• are able to attend scheduled training and project dates

• can help build long-term capacity within the club

• have a proven track record in conservation diving, snorkelling, citizen science or related volunteer work

 

Applicants do not need to be experts, but they should be willing to learn, act safely, follow project procedures and contribute constructively to Aquaholics’ conservation mission.

After submitting your application, Aquaholics will review your information against current project needs, available training opportunities and funding capacity.

Successful applicants will be contacted with details of upcoming training options, dates, requirements and any costs that remain their responsibility. Submitting an application does not guarantee subsidised training, but it helps Aquaholics understand who is interested and where future training support may be most useful.
