About the event

Join Aquaholics at Rickett’s Point for a Sea Slug Census, combining underwater exploration with practical citizen science through Project Sea-Sense.

Sea slugs are remarkably diverse marine animals, ranging from brightly coloured nudibranchs to species so well camouflaged they can be difficult to spot. Recording which species are found, where and when provides useful information about their distribution and the health and diversity of our local marine environment.

During the event, divers and snorkellers will search suitable habitat around Rickett’s Point, photographing sea slugs rather than collecting them. Observations will contribute to the Sea Slug Census and form part of Aquaholics’ broader Sea-Sense biodiversity monitoring program.

You don’t need to be a sea slug expert to participate. The event is as much about learning how to look closely at the marine environment as it is about finding individual species.

What to expect:

  • Searching for sea slugs and nudibranchs
