Join Aquaholics for a hands-on Northern Pacific Seastar cleanup and help protect our local marine environment. Divers, snorkellers and surface-support volunteers will work together to locate, remove and record this invasive predator, turning a day on the water into practical conservation action.

About the event
Join Aquaholics for a practical marine conservation event targeting the invasive Northern Pacific Seastar (Asterias amurensis) in Port Phillip Bay.
Northern Pacific Seastars are highly effective predators that feed on native shellfish and other marine invertebrates, and established populations can have a significant impact on local biodiversity, fisheries and aquaculture. Community removal events help reduce local numbers while also providing valuable information about where these seastars are being found.
During the event, our in-water teams will search for and collect Northern Pacific Seastars, while our surface and shore teams will help receive catches, record data and support the removal operation.
There are opportunities to participate as a scuba diver, snorkeller or surface-support volunteer, so you do not need to be a diver to get involved.
All participants will receive a briefing before activities begin, including identification, collection procedures, safety requirements and environmental considerations.
